Yamal LNG is a joint venture led by Novatek, with a 50.1% ownership stake, focused on operating a liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant on the Yamal Peninsula in northwest Siberia, Russia. The project utilizes resources from the South Tambey gas field and includes natural gas production, liquefaction, and shipping. The facility has a production capacity of 17.4 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of LNG, supported by infrastructure such as the Sabetta seaport, airport, and a railway line. The plant began operations in 2017 and has four processing trains, with the fourth reaching full capacity in June 2021. Yamal LNG supplies LNG under long-term contracts to both Asian and European markets, primarily focusing on China and Germany. The project plays a significant role in diversifying Russia's LNG exports and enhancing its position in the global market, ranking third in LNG capacity worldwide.
